Hi 👋🏻
So today is the last day of February, damn, I can’t believe it, and my Nepal trip is around the corner.
I was looking for hostels to stay and came across some cheap Airbnbs, so I thought, how about I give you tips about Airbnb to make your stay comfortable?
Let’s do it, let’s go!
Before You Book
1. Read the reviews carefully
Whether it is Airbnb or anything else, always, I repeat always, focus on recent reviews (last 6–12 months). Look for patterns about cleanliness, Wi-Fi speed, and host responsiveness.
It’s the #1 factor before booking anything. And it’s the biggest travel hack, too. You don’t know anything about the property, and you don’t know when you’ll encounter trouble. So always read the reviews carefully from as many sites as possible.
2. Check the cancellation policy
Plans change, and it’s pretty normal. So flexible cancellation will save you money and stress.
3. Zoom in on the location
Use the map view to check proximity to public transport, grocery stores, and attractions. Don’t book a property which is far away from your daily needs.
4. Message the host before booking
Ask about check-in time flexibility, parking, luggage storage, or anything not clearly listed. It will save you from a lot of trouble!
5. Double-check amenities
If you need fast Wi-Fi for work, air conditioning, heating, or a washer/dryer, confirm it’s explicitly listed. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck in a place you don’t want to stay.
Before You Arrive
6. Confirm check-in details 24–48 hours prior
Don’t assume everything is set just because you booked. Reach out a day or two before arrival to reconfirm check-in time, entry instructions, parking details, and Wi-Fi information. If it’s a self-check-in property, double-check the keypad code, lockbox location, or building access instructions.
7. Save directions offline
Signal can be unreliable, especially in rural areas, large apartment complexes, or international destinations. Screenshot directions, building entry instructions, and the exact address before you arrive. Download offline maps in advance so you’re not scrambling for Wi-Fi while trying to find the entrance. Having everything saved gives you peace of mind and makes the arrival much smoother.
8. Bring small essentials
Not every Airbnb is stocked like a hotel. Some hosts provide only starter supplies, one roll of paper towels, a few trash bags, or limited coffee pods. Bringing small essentials like dishwasher tablets, coffee, snacks, or travel-size toiletries can make your stay much more comfortable. It’s especially helpful if you’re arriving late, when stores may be closed.
During Your Stay
9. Respect house rules
Every Airbnb is someone’s property and often someone’s home. House rules aren’t there to be restrictive, they’re there to protect the space and maintain good relationships with neighbours. Pay attention to quiet hours, guest limits, parking guidelines, trash disposal instructions, and shoe policies.
10. Report issues immediately
If something isn’t working, tell the host right away. Most hosts appreciate the chance to fix things quickly.
11. Take photos upon arrival
Before you fully unpack, take a few quick photos of each room, especially if you notice existing wear or damage. This protects you in case of disputes over damage.
12. Keep communication on the Airbnb app
Even if your host shares a phone number, it’s best to keep key conversations on the Airbnb platform. Messages inside the app create a clear record of agreements, instructions, and any reported issues. If a dispute ever arises, Airbnb support can only reference communication that happened within the system, so keeping everything there protects both sides.
To upgrade your experience
13. Ask for local recommendations
One of the biggest advantages of staying in an Airbnb is access to local insight. Hosts often know the neighbourhood far better than any travel blog. Ask where they actually eat, which coffee shops locals love, or what attractions are worth skipping. You might discover quieter beaches, better brunch spots, or hidden viewpoints that never make it into guidebooks. A single recommendation can completely elevate your trip.
14. Treat it like a home, not a hotel
An Airbnb isn’t a serviced hotel suite, it’s a space someone owns and maintains personally. Cleaning up as you go, washing used dishes, wiping counters, and keeping things organized makes checkout simple and stress-free. It also shows respect for the host’s effort.
15. Leave a detailed review
Future guests appreciate honest, helpful feedback.
Thank you!
At the end of the day, a great Airbnb is all about how well you adjust. Go in prepared, stay flexible, and treat the space with care. Approach it as your home rather than checking into a hotel, the whole experience will shift.
The best stays happen when you allow a little room for the unexpected. Do that, and your Airbnb will become part of the story of your trip.
Thanks for reading. See you on Tuesday!
See ya!
