Hi 👋🏻
We all travel almost every month, and most of us prefer flying over trains or buses because it saves time and makes it easier to cover longer distances.
However, flight fares are getting more expensive day by day, and that is a concern for many of us. In this edition, I’ll share the best websites to help you find the best flight deals.
Skyscanner:
This app features a price alert bell icon on any search result. Once activated, it monitors that specific route and date 24/7, sending you an automatic push notification or email when the fare changes. It also includes a 'Price Alerts' system, but there is no official 'drops' feature that specifically tracks 20% cuts.
Hopper:
This tool uses a predictive algorithm to 'watch' trips for you. It sends notifications when it predicts a price is at or near its lowest point. It also offers a price drop guarantee on certain bookings, where it may provide travel credit if the price falls after you buy, but only for eligible bookings.
Google Flights:
While technically a mobile optimised website, it allows you to toggle 'track prices' for specific dates or 'any dates' to receive automatic email updates. It has tested a price guarantee feature in limited regions, but it is not widely available and does not always refund via Google Pay.
Kayak:
This app includes a price alert tool that monitors specific routes or general destinations. You can customise it to send instant mobile alerts or periodic summaries of price fluctuations. It also uses a 'buy or wait' recommendation based on historical data.
Going:
Formerly known as Scott’s Cheap Flights, this service focuses on curated deals and mistake fares. Instead of tracking a specific flight, it monitors routes from your selected departure airports and sends alerts when it finds significant price drops, often in the range of 40% to 90%, though savings vary.
Autopilot:
This is a specialised tracker for post booking savings. After you purchase a ticket, you can link your flight details, and the app will monitor price changes. Refund claims depend on airline policies and are not guaranteed.
Skiplagged:
This app is known for finding 'hidden city' fares, where your destination is a layover. It allows you to set price alerts for these routes as well as standard flights, notifying you when lower fares or pricing anomalies are detected.
Thank you!
No single app does everything, so using a combination of these tools can give you the best chance of finding and locking in a good deal.
Overall, these tools can help you track fares and make better booking decisions, but features and guarantees vary, so it’s worth checking the terms before relying on them.
Thanks for reading. See you on Saturday!
See ya!
