Adventures led by women designed to make a difference.

Imagine a vacation that’s not only transformative for you but helps open doors for the local women you meet along the way. That’s what Intrepid’s new Women’s Expeditions in Peru, Cambodia and Bhutan are all about.

Designed specifically for women travellers, these trips offer immersive local experiences that support women-run and owned businesses in each destination. With an expert local leader out front, you could trek the lesser-known Chinchero to Urquillos route in the Peruvian Andes alongside an all-female crew, dive into Cambodia’s street food scene on a women-run tuk tuk tour, or unwind with a traditional herbal hot stone bath at a women-owned farmhouse in Bhutan.

First launched in 2018, Intrepid’s Women’s Expedition range is designed to break down barriers, foster discussion and create meaningful connections for travellers and locals alike.

Hi 👋🏻

A beautiful new week, how’s it all going, bud?

Well, I know you don’t like a long-haul flight, don’t you? But when you travel to a country which is far away from India, you gotta choose that anyway.

So in today’s edition, I’ll talk about the best departure window for long-haul flights. Ready? lessgoo!

Departure time shapes the entire trip

When people book a long-haul flight, most of the attention goes to the airline, cabin, and seat. Departure time is usually chosen because it fits the schedule. Maybe it works around work commitments or it’s the most convenient option available.

After a few international trips, though, it becomes clear that the departure time matters more than it seems.

The hour you leave can affect how your body handles the time difference. Sleep, digestion, focus, and general energy during the first couple of days can feel different depending on when the flight departs. A comfortable cabin helps, but it does not fully make up for poor timing.

When the schedule goes against your natural rhythm, you can feel it after landing. You’re awake, but not fully sharp. It shows up in small moments like struggling to focus in a conversation or feeling slower than usual while exploring the city.

Understanding overnight departures

Why they are common

Many long-haul flights leave late in the evening and arrive the following afternoon. The idea is simple: sleep during the flight and land ready to begin the day.

What actually happens

In practice, sleeping well on a plane can be difficult. Even in a premium cabin with a fully flat seat and good bedding, you’re still in a pressurised aircraft cabin. There’s background noise, changing light, movement, and occasional interruptions.

Because of this, most travellers get lighter sleep rather than deep rest.

If the departure time doesn’t match your usual sleep pattern, rest becomes even lighter. You may land able to function, but not fully refreshed. The first day often becomes about settling in rather than being at your best, which matters if you have meetings or plans soon after arrival.

Overnight flights aren’t necessarily a bad option. They work well when the timing lines up with your natural sleep rhythm. When it doesn’t, the difference becomes noticeable fairly quickly.

Considering daytime long-haul flights

A different structure

Morning or midday departures treat the flight as an extended day rather than a sleeping period. You remain awake, read, work lightly, eat normally, and then sleep properly after arrival at the destination.

Why this can work better

For many travellers, especially on westbound routes, this approach can make the adjustment easier. Sleep happens in one proper stretch in a real bed instead of broken bits of rest on a plane. The next morning often feels more stable because your body adjusted during the night.

This option needs a bit of discipline because it does not promise immediate productivity after landing. The focus is simply on feeling better the next day.

Direction and time zones

Traveling west usually makes the day feel longer, which many people find easier to handle. Traveling east is different because the clock moves forward and the body has to adjust more quickly. The time you choose to depart can either ease that change or make it harder.

For eastbound flights, a departure that allows some rest before landing can make the transition a little smoother. For westbound trips, staying awake during the flight and sleeping after arrival often works better. Keeping this in mind can help avoid some unnecessary fatigue.

Protecting the first forty eight hours

The first couple of days after arrival often shape how the rest of the trip feels. If you land with good energy, the city feels easier to explore and enjoy. If you arrive tired and slightly out of sync, even a beautiful place can feel harder to take in.

Departure time is one of the few things you can control. Airline choices, airport delays, and weather are not. Picking the right timing can make a real difference, because having enough energy matters more than comfort alone.

How to check what works best for you

Frequent international travellers often begin to notice their own patterns. Some handle overnight flights well and can manage the next day even with limited sleep on the plane. Others feel far better after a daytime flight followed by proper rest after arrival.

Instead of picking flights randomly each time, it helps to notice how your body reacts to different departure times. Once that pattern becomes clear, you can plan around it rather than treating it as a small detail.

Thank you!

Long-haul travel will always involve some adjustment. The goal isn’t to avoid it completely, but to manage it better. Departure time doesn’t just decide when the flight leaves. It also affects how you arrive and how the trip begins.

Thanks for reading. See you on Saturday!

See ya!
