Hi 👋🏻
Whenever I need to fly or need information about flying, the only tool I look at is Skyscanner.
Today, I’ll tell you how Skyscanner will make your experience better.
Destination should not be your first decision
Most travellers choose a city first and then try to optimise flights around it.
That works when the trip is fixed. It limits you when flexibility exists.
Before deciding where to go, I open Skyscanner and select ‘everywhere’ from my departure airport. I switch to ‘whole month’ view and scan the global map.
With this, I get the upper hand on the trip.
Certain routes show wide availability across multiple days. Some cities appear consistently accessible. A few long-haul sectors show multiple strong routing options with different carriers. That tells you something about how fluid movement is in that window.
And fluid movement usually translates into a better journey.
Reading the network
When a route looks open
If a destination appears available across several dates and departure times, it suggests breathing space. That often means better seat selection in premium cabins, more control over timing, and less operational pressure on the route.
You can see the change in boarding, in cabin atmosphere, and in how you arrive.
When multiple carriers compete
If you see several airlines operating strong schedules on the same sector, you get an advantage. You can choose aircraft type, cabin configuration, departure time, and connection flow based on preference rather than compromise.
The difference between aircraft models in business class is something to think about. Sleep quality, privacy, storage layout, and service rhythm vary significantly. Skyscanner lets you compare these options side by side before you commit.
More choices improve the experience.
Designing a more layered itinerary
Multi-city approach
Instead of booking a conventional return flight, scan open-jaw and multi-city combinations. Like arriving in Milan and departing from Zurich, or landing in Tokyo and returning from Seoul.
When routing options appear elegant and flexible, you can design a trip that flows naturally and gives you a pleasant experience.
Comparing departure hubs
If you have access to more than one major airport, compare them. A short positioning flight give a superior long-haul aircraft or a better departure time.
If you arrive in a new city with proper rest, you might not struggle with jet lag, so it’s an advantage for you to explore quickly.
Let Skyscanner do it for you
Skyscanner becomes useful when you start using it as a planning lens.
Instead of asking, ‘Where do I feel like going?’ ask, ‘Where does the network look smooth right now?’
When you make yourself aware of the global route map, you often discover destinations you would not have considered. You also enter them at moments when demand intensity is lower, and travelling is easier.
Before confirming your next trip, open Skyscanner without a fixed city in mind. Spend ten minutes observing the network from your departure point. Notice which routes are making you interested. Notice which combinations look elegant, then decide. The best travel experiences begin before the booking.
Thank you!
One thing I enjoy about opening Skyscanner like this is the perspective it gives you. When you see the whole map of your city, you are reminded how connected you actually are. It changes the way you travel. The next trip feels less like a decision and more like an option you can step into when the timing feels right.
That mindset alone makes travel feel different long before you even pack.
Thanks for reading. See you on Thursday!
See ya!
