Rentless
The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.
That’s what this newsletter delivers.
I Hate it Here is your insider’s guide to surviving and thriving in HR, from someone who’s been there. It’s not about theory or buzzwords — it’s about practical, real-world advice for navigating everything from tricky managers to messy policies.
Every newsletter is written by Hebba Youssef — a Chief People Officer who’s seen it all and is here to share what actually works (and what doesn’t). We’re talking real talk, real strategies, and real support — all with a side of humor to keep you sane.
Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.
Hi 👋🏻
I always share travel tricks and hacks, but today I wanted to do something different.
I went on Reddit and collected travel hacks that users shared, and I’ve jotted them down for you! Are you ready?
✈️ Booking and planning hacks
Book accommodation with free cancellation → flexibility + backup options
Contact hotels directly → can sometimes negotiate cheaper rates
Rebook if prices drop → especially for rental cars or hotels
Stay flexible with dates → cheaper flights and better deals
Choose well-reviewed stays → e.g., 4.5⭐+ and many reviews to avoid scams
🎒 Packing and organization
Use packing cubes → keeps luggage organised
Carry-on only travel → saves baggage fees and time
Create an offline document with all bookings → tickets, hotels, etc.
Carry printed copies of documents → backup if phone dies
Bring a 'pocket pharmacy' → basic meds (painkillers, stomach meds, etc.)
📱 Tech and connectivity
Download offline maps (like Google Maps) → navigate without data
Use eSIMs (Airalo, Nomad) → avoid SIM hunting (though reliability varies)
Or buy a local SIM → often the cheapest option
Use global plans (like Google Fi) → seamless connectivity abroad
Use wireless headphones and navigation voice → walk hands-free, look less like a tourist
💳 Money and payments
Use travel rewards credit cards → earn points and miles
Use cards with no foreign transaction fees
Keep emergency cash (~£100 equivalent)
Use multi-currency cards (like Revolut) → easy currency conversion
Use a secondary debit account → limit risk if card is stolen
Always carry some local currency → not everywhere accepts cards
🛫 Airport and transport hacks
Online check-in → skip long lines
Compare airport vs off-airport car rentals → big savings possible
Overnight trains → save on accommodation
Download or keep tickets offline → avoids connectivity issues
🔒 Safety and convenience
Use a money belt → reduces pickpocket risk
Don’t access hidden cash in public → defeats the purpose
Keep backup cash and ID at the accommodation
Look confident (less phone usage) → reduces targeting by scammers
🏨 Accommodation tips
Avoid ‘too good to be true’ listings → likely scams
Check the number of reviews, not just the rating
Mention special occasions → sometimes leads to free upgrades
🌍 Practical comfort hacks
Use a universal charger (multi-port) → fewer adapters needed
Charge everything with one device → lighter packing
Have backup internet and payment options → avoid being stranded
Rentless picks the top 3 hacks
1. Carry-on only travel
This is a game-changer. You skip baggage fees, avoid lost luggage, and walk straight out of the airport instead of waiting at baggage claim.
2. Download offline maps (like Google Maps)
Navigation becomes stress-free even without data. This saves you from getting lost, overpaying for taxis, or draining your battery searching for Wi-Fi.
3. Keep emergency cash and backup payment options
Cards fail, machines don’t work, and some places are cash-only. If you have backup cash and ideally a second card, it can save your trip in a pinch.
Thank you!
Use these travel hacks wisely to save time, money, and stress. Every trip is unique, so adapt the tips to fit your style and destination.
